Homework Expectations

Homework is set on a Friday.

Homework is expected to be completed by the following Thursday.

Each week, children are expected to complete a piece of Maths (including times tables) and English homework (including SPaG), as well as their choice of topic-related task each week. We encourage you to read with your child as regularly as possible, recording this in your child's Reading Record.

There is an expectation that homework is done each week, however children are able to choose from the topic-related tasks in order to gain the necessary points for a certificate, and can complete their work in their 'Busy Books', or online using Teams.

Key Assessments

Year 4 Multiplication Check - This is a series of 25 quick fire times table questions to test knowledge of multiplication tables between 2 and 12. There is an emphasis on the 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12 tables because these are considered to be the most difficult. They have a maximum of 6 seconds per question.

The check happens in the Summer Term, so we encourage you to please help your child prepare for these tests throughout the year. There are many different ways to practice. Your child's class teacher will give them specific homework linked to times tables to help prepare them. Encourage your children to do this every week and help them with it after they have had a try themselves.

Click here for a parents guide of how to help your child with their times tables.
